However, as you know from our blog we had to change the Doing Business components of the Index. How did we do that, how close is new index from old index, and how to use our data for comparisons across time as well as across countries on our new webpage corruptionrisk.org (next year) you can find out by reading our new blogpost and comment to IPI 2021 on againstcorruption.eu.   • Total population is based on the de facto definition of population, which counts all residents regardless of legal status or citizenship-except for refugees not permanently settled in the country of asylum, who are generally considered part of the population of their country of origin.
  • Urban population refers to people living in urban areas as defined by national statistical offices.
  • Life expectancy at birth indicates the number of years a newborn infant would live if prevailing patterns of mortality at the time of its birth were to stay the same throughout its life.
  • Average number of years of education received by people ages 25 and older, converted from education attainment levels using official durations of each level.
